The Making of a leader in Georgetown, Day 2

Writer: Tek Lady Consulting (TLC)Tek Lady Consulting (TLC)

It seems like yesterday that Isaiah swore he never go away to school. He was afraid to fly, and not particularly interested in being someplace where he couldn't come home to eat.

With growth and maturity his interests have of course broadened, as his family has encouraged him to consider schools such as MIT, Embry Riddle, and University of Pennsylvania. JAFROTC has also encouraged him to pursue flight academy, and earn a pilot's license, and his Docent position at March Air Museum has played a big part in feeding his interests in flight.

The travel industry has been plagued with cancellations and delays as travelers appetite for flying inceases post pandemic. But on July 4th, 2022, Isaiah embarked on his longest journey away from home. The glee on his face when the engines started was immeasurable and, he questioned the flight crew about altitude and flight speed, all things that he is learning about for his pilot's license.

Isaiah has been on a consistent trajectory to pursue a science degree, most likely in Physics. But this summer we agreed to explore his other interests in history and government. The National Student Leadership Conferece for International Diplomacy is a perfect opportunity for him to do just that.

So far Isaiah has experience several debates, discussions, and simulations around Diplomacy. They have visited the Japanese culture museum and German embassy. He has also had the opportunity to experience college campus life with roommates, RA's, lecture halls, cafeterias and dorms at Georgetown University.

Over the past few days, my only confirmation of "proof of life" have been limited photos and brief texts exclaiming that he's busy having amazing discussions, making friends, and having fun! So much for not wanting to go away to school.

My hope is that I get more photos as they go to New York, visit the United Nations and see the Statue of Liberty.

Stay tuned!

Have an awesome journey, Isaiah. Can’t wait for the debrief when you get home. That is, when you come down out of the clouds! 🥰
